Scott Allen serves as a part-time teaching lecturer at Adelaide University, affiliated with the School of Physics, Chemistry and Earth Sciences in the College of Sciences. Previously at the University of South Australia (UniSA), now part of Adelaide University, he holds the role of Lecturer in Land Surveying within the School of Natural and Built Environments under UniSA STEM. With over 25 years of professional experience as a licensed surveyor in South Australia, Allen has contributed significantly to surveying education since 1997. He delivers instruction in both undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including Low-rise Construction and Land Surveying (BLDG 1002), Surveying Specialisations, Cadastral Surveying Project 1 and 2, and Surveying Fundamentals.
Allen's career includes active involvement in the development, delivery, and strategic direction of the Master of Surveying program, fostered through collaboration between UniSA and the Surveyors Board of South Australia (SBSA), where he has been an academic member since 2005. He participates alongside industry-based lecturers to ensure sustainable education outcomes addressing the demand for skilled cadastral surveyors. Allen engages in cadastral teaching education research and develops workshops tailored for graduate surveyors to advance their professional competencies. A notable publication co-authored by Allen is 'Sustainable Surveying Education in South Australia' (Nietschke, Bruce, Corcoran, and Allen, 2016), presented at the FIG Working Week 2016, which details industry-academia partnerships in surveying training.
