James Cook University (JCU) is seeking Expressions of Interest from organised, practical and safety-focused professionals to provide casual laboratory and technical support within the Clinical Skills Laboratory at the Murtupuni Centre for Rural and Remote Health in Mount Isa.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the education and training of future health professionals by supporting the delivery of practical nursing and clinical skills activities. Working as part of a collaborative team, you will help ensure teaching spaces, simulation equipment and learning resources are prepared, maintained and ready to support high-quality student learning experiences.
What You Can Accomplish in the Role
In this role, you will contribute to the effective operation of the Nursing Skills Laboratory by:
- Preparing clinical skills laboratories, clinical simulation spaces, equipment and teaching resources for scheduled classes and practical learning activities.
- Setting up and packing down equipment and resources before and after teaching sessions.
- Providing practical and operational support to academic staff, students and visitors using the laboratory and simulation facilities.
- Maintaining the cleanliness, organisation and readiness of teaching spaces in accordance with infection control, hygiene and safety requirements.
- Monitoring stock and inventory levels, replenishing consumables and assisting with the procurement of equipment and supplies.
- Maintaining accurate records relating to equipment, consumables, maintenance and laboratory activities.
- Promoting and adhering to Workplace Health and Safety requirements, standard operating procedures and relevant legislative obligations.
- Identifying and reporting hazards, incidents, equipment faults and maintenance requirements in a timely manner.

You will bring:
- Experience working in a clinical, scientific, educational, health or laboratory environment.
- Familiarity with equipment, consumables and safe work practices used in laboratory, clinical or simulation settings.
- An understanding of Workplace Health and Safety requirements and their practical application.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage changing priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate records and high standards of cleanliness and safety.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide professional and supportive service to staff, students and visitors.
- The ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
The role may also require:
- Occasional work outside normal business hours.
- Participation in required competency, compliance and safety training.
Desirable
- Experience supporting nursing, health professional or clinical skills education.
- Experience working with simulation equipment, clinical training resources or mannequins.
- Experience with stock control, procurement or equipment maintenance.
About the Opportunity
This is a casual opportunity based within the Clinical Skills Laboratory at the Murtupuni Centre for Rural and Remote Health in Mount Isa. Hours may be up to 36.25 hours per week but will vary according to teaching schedules and operational requirements.
