Alicia L. Carriquiry is Distinguished Professor and President's Chair in the Department of Statistics at Iowa State University, where she also serves as Director of the Center for Statistics and Applications in Forensic Evidence (CSAFE), a National Institute of Standards and Technology Center of Excellence. She recently was named the inaugural Patricia S. Conn Professor of Statistics. Carriquiry earned her PhD in Statistics and Animal Science from Iowa State University in 1989, MS in Statistics from Iowa State University in 1986, MS in Animal Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1985, and Ing. Agr. from Universidad de la República in Uruguay in 1981. She joined the Iowa State faculty in 1990 as Assistant Professor in Statistics, advancing to Associate Professor in 1995, Professor in 2001, Distinguished Professor in 2010, and President's Chair in 2016. Additional roles include Adjunct Professor in the MS Program in Bioinformatics and Biological Statistics at Universidad de la República del Uruguay since 2009 and formerly in the Doctoral Program in Statistics at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
Her research employs Bayesian methods to address problems in forensic science, nutrition epidemiology, plant and animal breeding, measurement error modeling, and survey sampling. Carriquiry has authored over 120 peer-reviewed manuscripts and co-edited several books, including Case Studies in Bayesian Statistics Volumes IV, V, and VI (1998, 2002), and contributed to National Academy Press volumes such as Dietary Reference Intakes: Applications in Dietary Assessment (2000) and Ballistic Imaging (2008). Highly cited publications include A semiparametric transformation approach to estimating usual daily intake distributions (Journal of the American Statistical Association, 1996) and Simple food group diversity indicators predict micronutrient adequacy of women's diets (The Journal of Nutrition, 2010). She has mentored 24 doctoral students, secured tens of millions in funding, and held leadership positions in major statistical societies. Honors include election to the National Academy of Medicine (2016), Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (2016), Founders Award from the American Statistical Association (2018), Florence N. David Award from the Committee of Presidents of Statistical Societies (2021), and Zellner Medal from the International Society for Bayesian Analysis (2021). Carriquiry is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association, Institute of Mathematical Statistics, and International Society for Bayesian Analysis, and an Elected Member of the International Statistical Institute. She has served on editorial boards for Statistical Science, Bayesian Analysis, and Annual Review of Statistics and Its Application, and as a member of the Committee of Statistical Editors for Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
