Position Summary

This one year Variable Hours Officer (Graduate Student Life Wellness Advisor) provides administrative, event management, and communications support that fosters the Graduate Engineering community, student development, and well-being from Welcome Day (orientation) through graduation. Responsibilities

Graduate Student Life (45%):

Applies knowledge of counseling and psychological principles to support the holistic development and well-being of graduate students through advising, community building, and student life programming.
Collaborates with student leaders and graduate student groups to design and implement programs and initiatives that foster a sense of belonging, address community needs, and promote the mental health and wellness of the graduate student population.
Attend and serve as lead staff designee for over 280 student events both on- and off-campus.
Communicate with external vendors to plan and execute programming year-round for the graduate student population.
Maintain the events calendar and events planning tracker.
Responsible for registration management on the event platform for student groups on Campus Groups. Creates and uploads registration lists and links; downloads, sorts, and compiles registration data for use at events and programs; and provides regular updates to planning teams. Anticipates and prepares the registration and supply needs for events.
Support with Columbia Engineering Graduate Orientation Welcome Day and Month in the fall semester, as well as Class Day and Commencement activities in the spring semester.
Support Graduate Engineering student groups. Understand and communicate the University and school event planning and management policies. Review student group event proposals; audit approved student events.
Observe and assess student engagement patterns at events and programs to identify community wellness trends and inform future programming decisions.
Identify students who may benefit from wellness resources during events and programming, and provide appropriate referrals or warm handoffs to relevant support services.

Engineering Wellness (30%):

Manages the development and implementation of Wellness Initiatives and programs for Columbia Engineering Graduate Students, ensuring alignment with community needs, School and University objectives, and high standards of quality care and community citizenship.
Provides individualized support and referrals to relevant resources (e.g., academic, mental health, necessities, roommate conflicts) for students as needed.
Serve as one of the staff members for graduate students needing urgent Wellness-related supports and services without having made an appointment.

Engineering Student Affairs (20%):

Supports designated Columbia Engineering MS programs, including the MSAI and MBAxMS programs, by assisting with student onboarding, course registration, academic advising, and community-building initiatives.
Provide general communications support for events, initiatives, and special projects as needed.
Create, edit, and publish content on the Columbia Engineering social media platforms.
Support the Assistant Dean of Engineering Student Affairs in community-building initiatives for MSAI students, including organizing and leading events, running student town halls, and meeting with MSAI student leaders to identify initiatives to enhance the MSAI student experience.
Serve as a first point of contact for prospective and newly admitted MSAI students by responding to inquiries via email and phone, meeting with walk-in students, providing on-site support at recruitment and onboarding events, and routing complex questions to the appropriate staff or faculty.
Support the yield communications strategy for the MSAI program in collaboration with Engineering Student Affairs and the Graduate Admissions Office.
Support yield and recruitment efforts for both the MSAI and the MBAxMS programs by creating marketing and communications content for prospective and newly admitted students.

Performs other tasks, duties, and responsibilities as assigned (5%).

Minimum Qualifications

Up to 2yrs. of related experience
Bachelor?s degree and/or equivalent experience required
Excellent written and verbal communication and analytical skills
Effective time and project management - ability to adapt to changing conditions
Ability to work nights and/or weekend hours as needed to cover events/programs
Experience with/or comfortable with speaking in front of groups
