Computational Biotechnology, Faculty 1 for Mathematics and Natural Sciences, RWTH Aachen University, Germany
Position Doctoral candidate (Chemistry, Physics)
Topic Elucidating the interactions, dynamics, and solvent effects of bio-based nanogels using quantum mechanical and all-atom computer simulations
Our Profile
We use computational tools to model (bio)physical and chemical systems.
We mainly perform simulations at different spatiotemporal scales to gain insights into diverse properties such as structural, opto-electronic, mechanical, and thermodynamic.
We model materials, molecular complexes and polymers.
We apply/develop Machine Learning schemes and workflows to enhance the simulations and/or analyze experimental data.
Your Tasks
You will be part of the DFG-funded graduate school "Adaptive Soft Matter Through Programming Colloidal Gels with Biological Building Blocks (EMERGE)".
In project C3 - "Elucidating the interactions, dynamics, and solvent effects of bio-based nanogels using quantum mechanical and all-atom computer simulations" you will
perform computer simulations at the density functional theory and Molecular Dynamics level,
model molecular interactions of biological building blocks and crosslinks in view of developing novel functional nanogels,
collaborate strongly with other doctoral students within EMERGE,
rotate among different labs within EMERGE,
have exchange visits to international collaborators.
The successful applicant must be accepted as a Doctor of Natural Sciences (Dr. rer. Nat.) candidate at RWTH Aachen University.
Your Profile
You have quickly and very successfully completed your Master studies at a university in chemistry, physics or comparable study programs. You intend to obtain a Doctor of Natural Sciences (Dr. rer. Nat.) on a challenging interdisciplinary topic.
You have a deep knowledge of Physics or Chemistry. You have academic achievements above the average. You have experience with programming and/or computer simulations. You are enthusiastic in learning n beyond your individual research topic. You are willing to actively collaborate with other researchers and disseminate research in different formats.
You are fluent in written and spoken English.
