Examples of Duties
Teaching responsibilities typically, teach 12 credit hours, include instruction in the FAA-approved Part 147 Airframe and Powerplant curriculum; maintaining class records as required by SIU Carbondale and FAA; participation in program/department support activities; perform maintenance on laboratory equipment. To attend department meetings as required. Support and positively contribute to SIU’s mission of student success and retention through actions and responsibilities within this role. To engage in other assignments as determined by the School Director.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Possess a valid FAA Mechanic Certificate with Airframe and Powerplant ratings, a minimum of three years of industry experience in aviation maintenance or related field, and at least one degree in an aviation related discipline. For Assistant Instructor an earned Bachelor’s degree. For Assistant Lecturer an earned Master’s degree. We will consider "tested experience" in accordance with SIU's Faculty Qualifications and Tested Experience Policy (https://policies.siu.edu/personnel-policies/chapter2/ch2-faps/faculty-qualifications.php) in place of a degree.
Preferred Qualifications: Successful post-secondary teaching experience in aircraft maintenance and/or product support.
