As a GRDC Grant-Funded technical officer, you will contribute to the GRDC Project “Innovative phenotyping for enhanced root traits to unlock soil productivity” (2026–2030).
This GRDC project directly aims to provide pre-breeders with powerful new tools to assess and enhance root traits critical for water, nutrient acquisition, and resilience to (sub)soil constraints. The successful candidate will coordinate technical services and apply technical judgement across broad-acre agricultural field settings, to ensure field trials are implemented in a timely manner, and technical services are continuously improved.
The Team
This role’s reporting line is to the Senior Lecturer and is responsible for coordinating the preparation, setup and routine operation of technical environments, facilities or activities to support teaching, research and operational requirements at Adelaide University.
The role forms part of School of Agriculture, Food and Wine team within the College of Science function and is aligned to the Provost Portfolio within the University.
Experience
- Experience working in agricultural, plant science or broad-acre cropping environments
- Knowledge and practical experience in Australian broad acre agricultural systems and field trial operations, including with grower groups
- Practical experience in supporting and performing experiments relating to the analysis of soil and plant materials in the laboratory and field
- Experience operating and maintaining field-based technical equipment or resources
- Experience applying safety and operational procedures in scientific environments
- Experience maintaining technical records, logs or documentation
- Understanding of WHS requirements, with demonstrated experience in the application of WHS and a research environment
