Job Summary
The Associate Director of Advising will help shape the advising landscape at Georgia Southern using data, technology, and advising best practices to understand student needs, implement advising strategies, and support student retention, progression, and graduation initiatives. This position in the Center for Advising, Retention & Completion leads strategic plans and operations for undergraduate advising across the institution in order to facilitate high-quality academic advising, excellent student support, strong campus partnerships, and ongoing staff development.
Alongside supervisory duties, this position will foster collaboration internally with advising staff and externally with academic departments and student success partners, with a focus on cultivating positive relationships between students and advisors across the university community, ultimately leading to an increased sense of belonging and an improvement in overall retention and graduation rates.
This role is a vital part of our leadership team and consistently exhibits service, collaboration, and excellence as championed by the Division of Enrollment, Marketing and Student Success.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Director in the logistical, operational, and strategic management of the Center for Advising, Retention and Completion
- Build, maintain, and assess major advising programs and projects in coordination with the CARC Leadership Team
- Collaborate closely with campus partners on departmental, divisional, and institutional initiatives as part of the Comprehensive, Coordinated, and Differentiated Student Success Model
- Assist the Director in departmental budget management, prioritization, and strategic planning
- Directly supervise a team of assistant directors and indirectly supervise a team of coordinators, advisors, administrative assistants, and student workers across the department
- Coordinate annual and semesterly planning to include project management, advising benchmarks, communication strategies, training, professional development, and departmental meetings
- Collaborate with CARC leadership to complete annual and ongoing assessment of advising practices
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
- Master's Degree
Required Experience
- Six or more (6+) years of advising/retention experience in a higher education setting
- Two or more (2+) years of leadership, supervisory, or human resources experience
- Two or more (2+) years of experience collaborating with academic partners on the development, revision, and implementation strategies related to curriculum
- Two or more (2+) years of experience in program development and/or project management related to advising and student success
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience
- One or more (1+) years of budget management experience
- Two or more (2+) of team supervisory experience
Proposed Salary
$75,000
This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.
