About the position
La Trobe University is seeking an experienced and commercially astute Associate Director, Commercial Leasing to lead the planning, development and implementation of contemporary leasing practice across the University's property portfolio.
Reporting to the Executive Director, Business Services, this senior role provides strategic, commercial and operational oversight of the University's leasing arrangements across all campuses, in both landlord and tenant contexts. The position plays a key role in ensuring the leasing function supports broader campus development priorities, strategic partnership objectives and the University's commercial and financial goals.
You will lead the Commercial Leasing team, oversee existing leasing arrangements, and provide commercial leadership on emerging leasing opportunities. The role will also drive continuous improvement in leasing governance, systems, processes and assurance frameworks to support effective decision-making, risk minimisation and best-value outcomes aligned to university purpose.
Working across a broad and complex stakeholder environment, you will partner with teams across asset development, infrastructure and operations, industry engagement, and the University Executive to provide authoritative advice and deliver strategic leasing results.
Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
- Extensive experience in commercial leasing and property asset management, including landlord and tenant arrangements, lease negotiations, third-party service provider management and lease lifecycle management.
- Proven experience leading and managing a significant and diverse leasing portfolio within a complex organisation.
- Strong commercial and financial acumen, including experience managing leasing revenue, budgets and portfolio performance.
- Highly developed stakeholder engagement, and management skills, with the ability to provide expert advice to senior executives and diverse stakeholder groups.
- Demonstrated leadership capability, with experience building and developing high-performing teams.
- A strategic mindset and the ability to align leasing activities with organisational priorities and long-term objectives.
- Outstanding communication skills, commercial judgement and a commitment to delivering exceptional stakeholder outcomes.
- Leasing governance framework management experience, including policy, assurance frameworks and reporting with the ability to run, maintain and continuously improve.
