JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsibilities:
- Develop and lead an externally funded research program in advanced manufacturing, especially in metal casting and lightweight metallic materials.
- Conduct cutting-edge research in metal casting, including high-pressure die casting, solidification science, casting defects analysis and prediction, AI/ML application in process optimization.
- Lead and contribute to proposal development and secure competitive external funding from federal agencies and industrial sponsors
- Collaborate with other faculty and various centers including the Advanced Casting Research Center, national laboratories, and industrial partners to develop next-generation manufacturing technologies.
- Manage day-to-day laboratory operations and coordinate research in metal casting.
- Publish research findings in leading journal, present at national and international conferences, and actively engage with the broader research community.
- Contribute to the growth and visibility of the department through interdisciplinary collaborations and technology transfer.
Required Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate expertise in several of the following areas:
- A Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- A strong record of peer-reviewed publications in internationally recognized journals.
- Demonstrated expertise in advanced metal casting, lightweight alloy development, and solidification science.
- Experience integrating computational materials engineering, thermodynamic modeling, process simulation, or artificial intelligence into materials and manufacturing research.
- Casting defect prediction, solidification modeling, and process optimization.
- Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME), CALPHAD, finite-element or computational fluid dynamics simulation.
- Metal recycling, sustainable manufacturing, and circular economy technologies.
- Demonstrated ability to develop competitive research proposals and establish collaborations with industry and government agencies.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and mentoring skills.
