CE 218 is an introduction to fluid mechanics covering topics such as hydrostatics, continuity, irrotational flow, pressure distributions, weirs and gates, momentum and energy, surface drag, pipe friction, form drag, pipe fitting losses.
CE 427/527 is a senior/graduate level course on the use of computer modeling tools for hydraulic engineering design including HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, and EPANET. The Lecturer will teach the theory behind the models, application of the computer models, and demonstrate through examples. The models will be used extensively to perform sensitivity analysis and to design several real world systems. At a minimum, HEC-RAS 6.6 applications should include GeoRAS, and HECRAS-2025 should be introduced for student awareness.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Lecture for approximately 15 weeks of the course. The course syllabus and material will be provided by the department head. The course material will include a textbook, pre-recorded lecture videos (to be watched outside of class), in-class activities, and example quizzes, homework, exams, etc.
- Coordinate discussion section topics and office hours with possible Teaching Assistant (for CE 218 only); grader that will help grading assignments; and any preceptors if the course is taught in an active learning style.
- Be accessible by students in office hours that may meet on campus or via phone/Zoom during their instructional period. Also, the instructor should be available via email throughout the week.
- Prepare and deliver all lectures; development of homework and provide homework solutions to the grader; and development and grading of examinations.
- Enter grades into the UA online system.
Minimum Qualifications
- PhD in Civil Engineering or Water Resources Engineering or relevant background; or
- MS degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent discipline and 5+ years of experience with a PE; or
- BS degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent discipline and 7+ years of experience with a PE.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong educational and work/research experience in water resources engineering.
- Experience teaching at the university level with preference to having taught this or a similar course.
