Dr. Tina R. Chang, Ph.D., serves as Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Psychology within Morehouse College's Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Division. Her academic journey began with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of California, Davis. She continued her studies at the Georgia Institute of Technology, earning a Master of Science in Experimental Psychology with concentrations in Animal Behavior and Environmental Psychology, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy in Experimental Psychology, specializing further in these areas. As Chair of the Psychology Department, Dr. Chang leads a faculty committed to exploring the history, culture, and role of Black people in the psychological sciences. The department provides Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees in Psychology, along with a minor, equipping students with skills in research methods, data analysis, ethical practices, and communication.
Dr. Chang's research interests include the effects of captivity on non-human primate behavior and psychological well-being, evolutionary theory and affordances as predictors of environmental preference in human and non-human primates, and the application of applied behavior analysis to program evaluation in non-traditional work settings. Her expertise in experimental psychology and animal behavior enhances her teaching and administrative roles, where she fosters deep understanding of human behavior, cultural diversity, and analytical thinking among students. Through her leadership and scholarly focus, Dr. Chang contributes significantly to the academic community at Morehouse College, advancing psychological research and preparing future leaders in the field.
