About Roger Marcel

Roger Marcel Wanke is a Brazilian Lutheran pastor and theologian with expertise in Old Testament studies and Hebrew. Born in Campinas, São Paulo, he earned his doctorate in Theology, focusing on the Old Testament, from the Faculty of Theology at Friedrich Schiller University Jena in Germany in 2009. His doctoral research culminated in the publication of "Praesentia Dei: Die Vorstellungen von der Gegenwart Gottes im Hiobbuch" by De Gruyter in 2011, a comprehensive analysis of the concepts of God's presence throughout the Book of Job, employing redaction-critical methods to trace theological developments.

Currently, Rev. Dr. Wanke serves as Professor of Biblical Theology (Old Testament) and Hebrew at the Faculdade Luterana de Teologia (FLT) in São Bento do Sul, Santa Catarina, Brazil. He holds leadership positions as General Director of the FLT, Director of Teaching, Research, and Extension, and Coordinator of the Faith Courses. As a member of the Igreja Evangélica de Confissão Luterana no Brasil (IECLB), he integrates pastoral ministry with academic pursuits. Wanke's scholarly contributions include chapters in Lutheran World Federation volumes, such as "Creation and Reconciliation" in "Pauline Hermeneutics: Exploring the Power of the Gospel" (2017), stemming from the 2015 consultation in Aarhus, Denmark, and contributions to "To All the Nations" (2015). He has published articles on topics like the interpretation of imprecatory psalms ("Ó Senhor, Deus das vinganças, resplandece (Sl 94.1)", 2013), psychic suffering in Job ("O sofrimento psíquico de Jó", 2015), and the preposition 'el in Job 42:7-8 (2016). Additionally, he serves in editorial capacities with Vox Scripturae Revista Teológica Internacional. His work influences theological discourse on biblical hermeneutics, divine presence, and pastoral application of Old Testament texts. Wanke participated in the Fourth International Conference on Lutheran Hermeneutics in Aarhus, Denmark.
