About Rebecca

Rebecca Hollander-Blumoff is Professor of Law at Washington University School of Law in St. Louis. She holds an A.B. magna cum laude from Harvard College (1992), J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School (1996), and Ph.D. in social psychology from New York University (2011). Her career began with a clerkship for Hon. Kimba M. Wood, U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York (1996–1997), followed by associate at Lankler Siffert & Wohl LLP (1997–2000). She then served as Research Professor at Seton Hall University School of Law (2000–2002), Acting Assistant Professor at NYU School of Law (2002–2005), and Research Fellow at NYU Institute of Judicial Administration (2005–2006). Joining Washington University in 2006 as Associate Professor, she was promoted to Professor in 2012 and served as Vice Dean for Research and Faculty Development (2017–2019). Additional roles include Visiting Professor at Notre Dame Law School (2012) and Harvard Law School (2016), Chair of the Faculty Senate Council (2015–2017), and Chair of the AALS Civil Procedure Section Executive Committee.

Her research examines law and psychology in dispute resolution, focusing on procedural justice, negotiation, and civil procedure. Key publications include editor of Handbook on Research in Law & Psychology (Elgar, 2024); "The Procedural Justice of Personal Jurisdiction," 65 Ariz. L. Rev. 643 (2023); "The Market as Negotiation" (with Matthew T. Bodie), 96 Notre Dame L. Rev. 1257 (2021); "Just Negotiation," 88 Wash. U. L. Rev. 381 (2010); and "Procedural Justice in Negotiation" (with Tom R. Tyler), 33 Law & Soc. Inquiry 473 (2008), her most cited work with over 300 citations. Her scholarship has influenced judicial decisions, including citations by the U.S. Supreme Court and Delaware Court of Chancery. Honors include Stanford–Yale Junior Faculty Forum selection (2009), Society for Empirical Legal Studies Fellowship (2015–present), and Voice of the Faculty (2018, 2021). She teaches negotiation globally to professionals.
