Rachel Lissaman serves as Academic Lead Assessment in the Office of the Head of Faculty, Medicine, at the University of Otago. She is a key member of the Programme Team for the MB ChB programme, Lead Tutor for Integrated Case Year 2 in Health Sciences, and Assessment Convenor for Early Learning in Medicine 2 (ELM2). These roles highlight her expertise in medical education assessment and integrated teaching within the Faculty of Medicine.
Lissaman's professional journey at the University of Otago commenced in 2006 with a position as summer prosector in the Department of Anatomy. In 2007, she completed her Postgraduate Diploma in Science (PGDipSci) in the department. Appointed as a Teaching Fellow in 2008, she taught extensively across papers such as ANAT, BIOA, DENT, MICN, HUBS, and PHSE, delivering over 380 contact hours per year. She made substantial contributions to the redesign of ANAT101: Anatomy for Sport and Exercise, transitioning it from a 200-level to a 100-level paper, and acted as Convenor for the following five years. Additionally, she conducted integrated case teaching for the Medical Early Learning Module, earning recognition for her pastoral care and commitment to student support, including enthusiasm for assessment tasks like marking. Following her time in Anatomy, she transitioned to the Otago Medical School in a role announced amid Faculty of Medicine restructuring in February 2026.
