Dr. Peyman Ghassemi Pour Sabet is a Lecturer in the GC Partnerships area within the Global Curtin portfolio at Curtin University in Perth, Australia. He completed his PhD at Curtin University in 2013 with a dissertation entitled 'Interaction through vague language: L1 and L2 perspectives.' Currently, he is a Doctorate by Research and Coursework candidate in the Graduate School of Education at the University of Western Australia. His research specializations include educational psychology, pragmatics, inter- and cross-cultural communication, and second language acquisition. Sabet's work explores the use of vague language in first and second language contexts, pragmatic functions of linguistic expressions, socio-onomastic approaches to naming practices, intercultural competence in tertiary education, and the role of generative AI in educational assessments.
Sabet has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals. Key publications include 'A window to the future of intercultural competence in tertiary education: A narrative literature review' with Elaine Chapman (International Journal of Intercultural Relations, 2023); 'Communicating through vague language: A comparative study of L1 and L2 speakers' with Grace Qiao Zhang (2016); 'First names in social and ethnic contexts: A socio-onomastic approach' with Grace Zhang (Language & Communication, 2020); 'Elastic “I think”: Stretching over L1 and L2' with Grace Qiao Zhang (Applied Linguistics, 2016); 'Generative AI and Educational Assessments: A Systematic Review' with Jian Zhao and Elaine Chapman (Education Research and Perspectives, 2024); and 'The Pragmatic Functions of “I Don't Think” and “I Think + Not”' with Grace Qiao Zhang (Australian Journal of Linguistics, 2018). He also co-authored 'Elastic language in academic emails: Communication between a PhD applicant and potential supervisors' with Samran Daneshfar and Grace Zhang (Australian Journal of Linguistics, 2021). Sabet serves as Associate Editor for Education Research and Perspectives.
