Always supportive and understanding.
Peter A. Dashner is Professor Emeritus in the Mechanical Engineering Department at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona), where he served from 1981 to 2014, spanning 33 years of distinguished service. He began his academic career as a professor of engineering in 1976. Dashner earned his B.S. in 1973, M.S. in 1975, and Ph.D. in 1976 from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He is also an alumnus of Cal Poly Pomona, where he earned a B.S. degree. During his tenure, he held the position of department associate chair for two years and chaired numerous standing and ad-hoc committees at the department, college, and university levels. His research specialization lies in theoretical continuum mechanics relating to solids and fluids, for which he authored numerous publications, including the paper 'Elastic shadow flow and its theoretical implications for inelastic solids' published in 2001 in the International Journal of Solids and Structures. Additionally, he authored an engineering textbook on Dynamics.
Dashner received the university's Outstanding Advisor Award, recognizing his exceptional service to students and the institution. Upon retirement, the Academic Senate of Cal Poly Pomona unanimously bestowed upon him the title of Professor Emeritus in appreciation of his untiring contributions to students and faculty, with the resolution permanently recorded in the Senate's Minutes and Archives. He developed a comprehensive online lecture series for Intermediate Dynamics (ME 4160, formerly ME 316), recorded live during Spring 2015. The 29-lecture series covers key topics such as elements of Euclidean vector algebra, particle kinematics, rigid body kinematics, orbital dynamics, relative motion, and rigid body dynamics, remaining accessible via the Mechanical Engineering Department website as a valuable resource for students.
