Dr. Patricia Lau is a Senior Lecturer (Education-focused) in the Malaysia School of Business at Monash University, specializing in Green Human Resource Development. Her research focuses on human resource development and environmental sustainability, with key areas including organizational power and politics, training and development, organizational culture and climate, employee extra-role behaviors and commitment, higher education and lifelong learning, and Green HRM. She contributes expertise related to UN Sustainable Development Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. Lau serves on the editorial boards of Education and Training, Human Resource Development International, and European Journal of Training and Development. She led the establishment and development of HR forums at Monash University Malaysia to connect academia, research, and industry. Her teaching includes MGC1010/MGW1010 Introduction to Management, MGW2230 Organizational Behaviour, MGW2430 Human Resource Management, MGW3230 Organizational Behaviour and Change, MGX5000 Introductory Management Research Methods, MGX5640 Cross-cultural Management Communication, and MGW2011 Self-leadership for Career Success. She has supervised non-HDR students, examined theses, mentored FHEA, and contributed to workshops, seminars, and conferences, including speaking at the British Academy of Management Conference 2025.
Lau has earned recognition for teaching excellence, including the Vice-Chancellor’s Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning (2012, Monash University Australia), Dean's Award for Teaching Excellence (2011, Faculty of Business and Economics, Monash University Australia), President/Pro-Vice Chancellor Awards for Outstanding Teaching and Innovation (2010 and 2012, Monash University Malaysia), Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (2022), and Outstanding Peer Reviewer Award (2021). Her publications include "Does investment in green employee development climate matter for environmental commitment and green well-being? A case study of a palm oil company in Malaysia" (SAGE Open, 2023, co-authored with Park, S., Hsu, Y.-C., Lien, B.Y.-H., and Ho, J.A.); "Job crafting and employee voice behavior: the roles of person-job fit and job-based psychological ownership" (Personnel Review, 2025); "Does workplace spirituality play a protective role? A study on job insecurity, perceived business uncertainty, and employee well-being in Pakistan during the COVID-19 pandemic" (Journal of Human Resources in Hospitality & Tourism, 2025); "Empowerment discrepancies: are employees empowered as they prefer in hotels in selected areas of Thailand?" (Human Resource Development International, 2022); and "How Instagram, LinkedIn, and Glassdoor shape employer brands through employee-generated content" (2025). Her research appears in high-impact journals such as Personnel Review and Human Resource Development International, and she has contributed to media on leadership communication, manager skills, work pressures, and youth employment post-COVID-19.
