Dr. Nicole Lynch serves as Chair of the Health Professions Department at Georgia State University Perimeter College, where she is a professor specializing in Kinesiology and Health. She earned her B.A. in Exercise and Sport Science from the University of North Carolina in 1993, M.S. in Kinesiology and Health from the University of North Texas in 1995, and Ph.D. in Kinesiology and Health from the University of Maryland in 1998. Following her doctorate, she completed a Pre-doctoral Fellowship with the Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging and a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and Baltimore VA Medical Center. Dr. Lynch holds certification as an Exercise Physiologist from the American College of Sports Medicine. Throughout her career, she has focused on promoting physical activity and healthy living through education and scholarship.
In her teaching role, Dr. Lynch delivers courses in Kinesiology and Health, along with Perspectives courses addressing physical activity and public health, and longevity and well-being inspired by Blue Zones cultures. Her research centers on fostering physical activity to mitigate health disparities and investigating its impacts on aging and chronic diseases. She has contributed to key initiatives, including a 2022 RISE Seed Grant awarded to Perimeter College faculty, the 2023 SURGE project linking Atlanta communities with Georgia State researchers to address health disparities, and a multidisciplinary community research grant partnered with the City of Atlanta's Department of Transportation. Dr. Lynch has also acted as interim department chair for Health Professions and Business Administration, supporting student preparation for health careers and advancing interdisciplinary efforts in public health and kinesiology at Georgia State University.
