Dr. Nancy L. Johnson, CPA, serves as Assistant Professor of Accounting in the School of Business at Meredith College. With over 20 years as an educator, she has developed online, face-to-face, and hybrid courses for all levels in higher education, established financial acumen workshop series for business leaders, and volunteered in K-12 stock market financial acumen development programs. Her extensive professional experience includes more than 20 years in the financial services industry as an analyst, project manager, and equity trader, along with 20 years as a corporate financial acumen and process improvement consultant. Dr. Johnson holds a D.B.A. in Business Economics and Finance from Saint Mary’s University of Minneapolis, MN; an M.B.A. from Augsburg University, Minneapolis, MN; a Graduate Certificate in Accounting from Keller School of Management, St. Louis Park, MN; and a B.A. in Accounting from Augsburg University, Minneapolis, MN.
Dr. Johnson's research focuses on accounting education, including online versus face-to-face instruction for entry-level students, instructional design such as study habits and adaptive interactive e-books, interdisciplinary collaboration, and CPA Exam preparation. Key publications include “Online versus face-to-face instruction: Entry level accounting students are performing about the same” co-authored with Candalyn Rade (2024, The North American Accounting Studies 7(1): 19-32); “Study habits shift to adaptive interactive e-books: Rethinking instructional design” with C.B. Rade (2024, Teaching Business & Economics 28(3): 12-16); “Building confidence across disciplines: Collaborating with broadcast journalism students” with L. She has presented “Virtual Presence: Teaching Virtual Meeting Mastery in the Classroom” and an accounting business case, led financial literacy workshops as a Certified Financial Education Instructor, serves as Broyhill faculty advisor, received the Harry and Marion Eberly Faculty Development Award in 2025, and teaches Financial, Managerial and Intermediate Accounting, Audit, and Accounting Processes and Systems.
