Dr. Melissa Grim serves as Assistant Dean for Academic and Student Affairs and Professor in the Department of Health and Human Performance at Radford University. She earned her Doctorate and Master of Arts degrees in Health Behavior from The Ohio State University, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Education with a specialization in exercise science from Bowling Green State University. A Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES), Dr. Grim's expertise centers on planning and evaluating public health interventions to increase physical activity and on initiatives to improve retention among college students. Her academic and professional contributions extend to community health leadership, where she serves on the Board of Directors for the Community Health Center of the New River Valley in her second term.
Dr. Grim has advanced through key administrative roles at Radford University, including Chair and Interim Chair of the Department of Health and Human Performance. Her scholarly output includes co-editing The Health Education Specialist: A Companion Guide for Professional Competence, published by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc., and selection as co-editor for its Eighth Edition announced in 2020. She also co-edited the third edition of Health Promotion Programs: From Theory to Practice for the Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE) and co-authored a chapter therein. Prominent peer-reviewed articles encompass 'Impact Evaluation of a Pilot Web-Based Intervention to Increase Physical Activity' in the American Journal of Health Promotion (2011), 'Teaching Anatomy Kinesthetically through Modeling' in the International Journal of Athletic Training & Therapy (2006), 'Formative Evaluation of MyFit: A Curriculum to Promote Self-Regulation of Physical Activity' in the American Journal of Health Education (2013), and 'Building Capacity for Healthier Communities: Needs Assessment and Asset Inventory' (2011). In recognition of her advising excellence, she received the Radford University Distinguished Faculty Advising Award in 2011. Dr. Grim's efforts bolster health education credentialing and promotion strategies within academic and public health domains.
