Mario Rosentau, dr. iur., serves as Lecturer in Comparative Jurisprudence at the University of Tartu School of Law, Department of Public Law. He earned his Law degree from the University of Tartu between September 1981 and May 1986, followed by an MA in Philosophy from September 1994 to September 1998, and a Dr. iur. in Law and Philosophy of Law from September 1998 to December 2004. Rosentau has been affiliated with the University of Tartu Faculty of Law as a lecturer from September 2013 to March 2022 and continues in his current role at the Institute of Public Law. From September 2013 to March 2022, he also practiced as an Attorney at Law at HansaLaw in Tallinn, specializing in computer law, intellectual property, contract law, and civil law. In 2024, he was nominated by the Student Union for the University of Tartu teaching staff of the year award.
Rosentau's academic interests include analytical philosophy, modern philosophy, philosophy of technology, artificial consciousness, computer ethics, intellectual property rights, and copyright. His publications reflect these areas, notably the book Mida inimene tõeliselt vajab? Elamise normtasemete teooria (2016), which develops a theory of human needs based on norm levels of living. Key articles include Arvutivõrgu abil sõlmitud leping kui lepingu erivorm (2021) on contracts via computer networks as a special form of contract; IT autorilepingute kohustuslikud vormid ja vormiga fikseeritav sisu in Juridica (2020) addressing mandatory forms for IT authorship contracts; The General Data Protection Regulation and its Violation of EU Treaties (2018); Mida inimene tõeliselt vajab? Seksuaalsed vajadused ja erootikakultuur (2016); and Intellektuaalse omandi õigused infotehnoloogias. Autori varalised õigused (2010) on authors' economic rights in IT. He has supervised five doctoral dissertations at the University of Tartu Faculty of Law.
