Dr. Jeannette Fresne is the Associate Dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication and Professor of Music at Lamar University. Her academic background includes a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Arizona State University, a Master of Music from Texas State University, and a Bachelor of Music from the University of Texas at Austin. Throughout her career, she has held various teaching positions at prestigious institutions. Before joining Lamar University, she taught at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, served as Graduate Coordinator of Music and Director of Arts in Education at the University of South Alabama, instructed undergraduate and graduate courses at Arizona State University and Texas State University, and taught at Seminario Bíblico Bautista in San Antonio. She also has experience teaching early childhood and elementary music, as well as high school choir.
Dr. Fresne's research specializations encompass early childhood and elementary music pedagogy, seven-shape shape-note gospel music, and the integration of performing arts into the learning process. Her scholarly contributions include peer-reviewed publications on arts integration and music education, as well as co-authored gospel hymns with Thurman Coffey. Key publications feature "Connecting music, movement, and mathematics" (2016), "Sharing Stories, Making Music, and Creating Authors: Literature-Based Musical Extensions as Shared Experiences" (2019), "The Stamps-Baxter G.I. School" (2019), "Orchestrating young children’s moving and music making" (2019), "The Stamps-Baxter GI school of music" (2018), "Arts in education: Professional development integrating the arts and collaborating with schools and community" (2014), "Stamps, V(irgil) O(liver)" (2014), "History of the Stamps Baxter Singing Schools and Normal School of Music" (2008), "Issues in Arts Education in Latin America" (2006), and her dissertation "Schools of the Stamps-Baxter Music and Printing Company: a history from 1926 to 1964" (2004). Dr. Fresne has delivered several international guest lectures in China and has played leadership roles in curriculum development, faculty governance, and organizational boards, promoting student-centered learning through research, teaching, and community engagement.
