Hayley Abourezk-Pinkstone currently holds the position of Assistant Professor of Economics at Simpson College, where she is affiliated with the Department of Business Administration and Economics. Her academic journey began with a B.A. in Economics and Mathematics from Lewis & Clark College, which she completed in 2017. She then pursued advanced studies at the University of Michigan, earning an M.A. in Economics in 2019 and culminating in a Ph.D. in Economics in 2024. Her dissertation, "Three Essays in the Economics of Education," underscores her commitment to understanding key issues in educational policy and outcomes. Following her successful placement on the academic job market in the 2023-2024 cycle, she joined Simpson College as full-time faculty, as listed in the college catalog for the 2025-2026 academic year.
Abourezk-Pinkstone's research specializations encompass applied microeconomic theory, labor economics, and the economics of education, as stated in her Sylff professional profile. During her graduate studies at the University of Michigan, she presented her research at seminars hosted by the Center for the Education Policy Initiative. She delivered talks titled "Student Loan Debt and Risk Preferences on the Job Market" in Fall 2023 and Winter 2023. Additionally, in Fall 2021, she co-presented "Effects of Expanded Public School Choice on Segregation and Racial and Socioeconomic Sorting in Schools" with Keshav Garud.
