Fuad H. Mallick is Professor and Dean of the School of Architecture and Design at BRAC University. He founded the Department of Architecture and authored its curriculum, as well as established the Postgraduate Programs in Disaster Management, the first of their kind in the region. He holds a PhD in Environment and Energy Studies from the Architectural Association School of Architecture, London (1994), an MPhil in Architecture (Housing Studies) from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK (1987, Commonwealth Scholar), and a BArch from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka (1983, First Class). With over 35 years of teaching and research experience in architecture in Bangladesh and abroad, his career encompasses roles such as Pro Vice Chancellor at BRAC University (2013-2017), Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Architecture (2003-2019), Visiting Professor at Harvard Graduate School of Design (Fall 2023 and Spring 2025), Associate Professor at Eastern Mediterranean University (1999-2001) and BUET (1997-1999), and earlier positions at BUET and private practice. He has led projects including the World Bank-funded Pro Poor Slum Integration Project (2013-2014), IUCN cyclone resilient housing in coastal areas (2008), Disaster Resilient Habitat construction (2011), and collaborations with UK universities on climate change, urban poverty, and disaster education.
Mallick's research focuses on environmental aspects of architectural design, low-income and rural housing, architectural education, disaster management, and climate change. He is co-editor of 'Disaster Risk Reduction Approaches in Bangladesh' and 'Climate Change Adaptation Actions in Bangladesh' (both Springer, 2013), editor of 'Next50: Collective Futures' (University Press Limited, 2025), author of 'The Rohingya Camps: Permanence in Transition' (Harvard Graduate School of Design, 2025), and co-author of 'Muzharul Islam: Architect' (BRAC University Press, 2011). He has contributed book chapters, such as on climate change and cyclone risk reduction (2022), and journal articles. Mallick served as Vice President of the Asian Universities Network for Environment and Disaster Management, technical reviewer for the Aga Khan Award for Architecture, member of review boards for international journals, and jury member for design competitions. He received the ODA scholarship for doctoral studies (1991-1994) and merit scholarships during undergraduate studies.
