Ms Eva Charitou is a Lecturer in Nursing at the School of Nursing and Midwifery, College of Health, Adelaide University. She brings extensive clinical experience from ten years as a Critical Care Registered Nurse in the fields of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Cardiology, including positions at the Royal Adelaide Hospital's Cardiothoracic ward and ICU, and the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne working with ventricular assist devices and heart transplant patients. Prior to her current academic appointment, Eva served as a Clinical Educator in nursing simulation, Clinical Facilitator, Academic Liaison, and Tutor. In July 2021, she joined the Australian College of Critical Care Nurses (ACCCN) as the SA/NT ALS Coordinator. Her academic credentials include a Master in Nursing Science and postgraduate qualifications in Critical Care (Cardiac Nursing). Committed to ongoing professional development in higher education and research, she integrates her practical knowledge into teaching to enhance student learning.
Eva Charitou demonstrates a strong passion for nursing education, employing diverse pedagogical approaches to address student needs, embrace diversity, and empower learners to achieve their potential. She currently teaches and coordinates several courses in the Bachelor of Nursing Program at Adelaide University, such as NURS 1073 Health of Older People (2025), NURS 1061 Experiential Learning Activity: Preparation for Clinical Practice Practicum 1 (2024), NURS 1072 Foundations of Nursing Practice (2024), NURS 2040 Assessment, Diagnostics and Pharmacotherapeutics (2024), NURS 1901 Professional Experience Placement 1, and NURS 1000 Becoming a Nursing Professional. Her focus on simulation, experiential learning, and clinical preparation equips students with essential skills for nursing practice. Furthermore, Eva co-authored a poster presentation at the HERDSA 2024 conference titled 'Enhancing critical thinking in nursing and midwifery students through generative AI integration,' highlighting her engagement with innovative teaching methods.
