Dr. Corrie Reed is an Associate Professor of Kinesiology in the Department of Kinesiology, Health, and Recreation at Hardin-Simmons University's College of Health Professions, where she has been a faculty member since 2007. A graduate of Angelo State University with a B.S. in 2001 and an M.S. in 2003, she earned her Ph.D. from Texas Woman's University in 2013. Dr. Reed previously served as Chairman of the department, underscoring her leadership in advancing the department's objectives. These include providing students with opportunities for wholesome physical activities suited to their needs, developing lifelong recreational skills, and preparing professionals for roles in teaching physical education, coaching athletics, exercise science, fitness, recreation, and sports management. Her expertise supports the department's B.S.H.S. programs in Exercise Science and Fitness, Recreation, and Sports Management, as well as certifications in EC-12 Physical Education and various minors such as Coaching and Health Sciences.
Beyond teaching, Dr. Reed actively contributes to community health initiatives through her oversight of the HSU Learn to Swim Program, summer swim camps, and lifeguarding certification courses at the university's Mabee Complex. As the designated contact for these programs, she manages staffing for deck supervisors and swim instructors, promoting aquatic safety and recreation in Abilene, Texas. In acknowledgment of her commitment, Dr. Reed received the Provost's Award for Outstanding Service to the Community in the 2015-16 academic year. She has also participated in professional events like the TRAPS 2020 Institute educational seminars and supports adjunct faculty recruitment for the School of Kinesiology, Health, and Recreation, including positions in psychology instruction. Through her multifaceted roles, Dr. Reed enhances the academic and practical training in kinesiology at Hardin-Simmons University.
