Chris Lowry is Professor of Speech Communication and Department Chair of the Speech and ASL Department at Palomar College on the San Marcos Campus. He leads the Speech Communication program, which focuses on oral communication skills essential for academic and professional success. Lowry instructs SPCH 100 Oral Communication, offered in both in-person and online modalities to serve a wide range of students. As a dedicated educator at this community college, Lowry contributes to program development and faculty recruitment, serving as the primary contact for part-time Speech Communication instructors.
Lowry's leadership extends to extracurricular and service roles, including Student Learning Outcomes (SLO) Facilitator for ASL, Forensics, and Speech within the Languages and Literature division. He supports the Palomar Forensics, Speech and Debate Team, which achieved notable success at the 2016 Phi Rho Pi National Tournament in the Wheeler Division, placing first in Debate Sweepstakes, second overall, and third in Individual Events Sweepstakes among 66 schools. In recognition of his contributions to forensics, Lowry received the Phi Rho Pi Service Award in 2016 from this national honor society for community college speech and debate. Additionally, he participates in institutional accreditation by providing sample syllabi and engages in departmental directories for both Speech Communication and ASL programs, ensuring comprehensive support for students pursuing communication studies and related fields.
