Gale's research interests center on neonatal medicine, leveraging routinely collected clinical data to enhance neonatal care, exploring the influence of early life events on later health, and applying evidence-based medicine in neonatal practice. He has secured funding from MRC and NIHR, including Clinician Scientist and Clinical Trials Fellowships. Key publications include 'Neonatal brain injuries in England' (Archives of Disease in Childhood - Fetal and Neonatal Edition, 2018), 'Development of a core outcome set for neonatal research' (Archives of Disease in Childhood - Fetal and Neonatal Edition, 2020), and 'Core outcome sets in neonatal medicine' (Archives of Disease in Childhood - Education & Practice Edition, 2018).
