About Catrin

Professor Catrin Evans is a registered nurse, social scientist, and Professor of Evidence Based Healthcare within the School of Health Sciences at the University of Nottingham. Holding a BSc, MA, and PhD, she worked as a nurse and research consultant in various international settings before joining the University in 2003. Throughout her career, she has held senior leadership roles including Director of Global Engagement, Director of Postgraduate Research, Director of Knowledge Exchange, and currently serves as Faculty Lead for the UoA3 REF submission. She is co-Director of the University of Nottingham Centre for Evidence Based Healthcare, a JBI Centre of Excellence, and contributes significantly to evidence synthesis methodology as Chair of the JBI Qualitative Review Methodology Group, member of the JBI Scoping Review Methodology Group, and member of JBI's Scientific Committee. Evans is an Associate Editor of the JBI Evidence Synthesis Journal and serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Clinical Epidemiology. Her research focuses on maternal and women's health, the digital transformation of healthcare and its intersection with health equity, internationalisation of health professional education, and development of advanced practice roles in diverse contexts. As a primarily qualitative researcher with expertise in evidence synthesis, she is a member of the School's Child, Maternal and Family Health Research Group and advocates for community-led participatory research approaches. Her work has been funded by national and international agencies.

Evans is an experienced educator across undergraduate, MSc, and doctoral programmes, recognised as a Senior Fellow of Advance HE and recipient of two University of Nottingham Lord Dearing Awards for Teaching Excellence. She is an accredited JBI systematic review trainer. Key publications include 'Developing Initial Programme Theories for a Realist Synthesis on Digital Clinical Consultations in Maternity Care: Contributions from Stakeholder Involvement' (2024, Journal of Research in Nursing), 'The Role of Scoping Reviews in Guideline Development' (2024, Journal of Clinical Epidemiology), 'A Qualitative Systematic Review of Barriers and Facilitators to Hepatitis B and C Programmes in Prisons' (2025, Journal of Viral Hepatitis), and 'Applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Breast Cancer Care Delivery and Education: A Scoping Review' (2026, International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health). Her contributions advance evidence-based healthcare practices globally.
