Brian Jump serves as Assistant Professor of Commercial Music and Technology at Central State University, having joined the faculty in January 2020. He is affiliated with the Music Faculty in the Department of Fine and Performing Arts, part of the College of Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences, and Education. In this role, Jump developed a certificate program focused on music technology, live-sound production, and commercial music. Jump earned his bachelor’s degree in Guitar Performance from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and his master’s degree in Music Technology from Duquesne University. Prior to Central State University, he was an adjunct instructor of music at the Community College of Allegheny County in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, from 2010 to 2019. There, he taught music technology, music history, and music theory, and contributed to the creation of an associate’s degree program in music technology. Jump is a skilled guitarist, audio engineer, teacher, and performer with expertise across pop, jazz, musical theater, and classical genres. Since 2021, he has performed pop standards in the Dayton-Xenia region as Good Song Guy, a one-man loop-sampling cover band. From 2008 to 2019, he maintained a residency at Oliver Twist in Pittsburgh’s cultural district as part of an acoustic duo specializing in commercial music. He authors and hosts the blog and podcast 'Chasing the Chords,' exploring music history, technology, and education. Jump teaches courses including Introduction to Music Technology and Music Appreciation at Central State University. In 2022, he collaborated with Jennifer Cruz, D.M.A., to deliver the presentation 'Demystifying Hip-Hop' at the Group Piano Forum, held at the University of Arizona in Tucson under the Music Teachers National Association.
