Betina Szkudlarek is a Professor of International Management at the University of Sydney Business School. She earned her PhD cum laude from Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University, and her MA from the University of Silesia in Katowice, Poland. Throughout her career, she has advanced to her current professorial role and was recently appointed Associate Dean (Research Education) at the Business School. She also holds the position of Strategic Sustainability and Growth Advisor. Szkudlarek's internationally recognized research encompasses four main streams, including the role of the business sector in social cohesion, with a particular emphasis on refugee employment and integration.
Her core research interests lie at the intersection of cross-cultural management, international human resource management, diversity management, and refugee workforce integration. She has published extensively in leading journals such as the Journal of World Business, Human Resource Management Review, International Journal of Human Resource Management, Journal of International Management, European Journal of International Management, and Academy of Management Learning & Education. Key publications include her editorship of The SAGE Handbook of Contemporary Cross-Cultural Management, contributions to Management Across Cultures: Challenges, Strategies, and Skills, 'Doing Silence: How Silence Is Produced in Meetings' (2023), and 'A temporal perspective on refugee employment – Advancing HRM theory and research' (2021). As Associate Editor of the European Journal of International Management and editorial board member for Cross Cultural & Strategic Management and Journal of Global Mobility, she shapes the field. Szkudlarek has received the Research Engagement of the Year Award from the University of Sydney Business School, the ONE-SIM Outreach Award from the Academy of Management, and numerous other national and international awards for her impact-driven research. She consults for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations on intercultural competence and global leadership, and co-authored the Employers Guide to Refugee Employment with the Crescent Foundation to aid organizational integration efforts.
