Professor Amanda Henderson, RN, RM, BSc, GradDipNurs(Educ), MScSoc, PhD (UNSW), serves as Professor of Nursing in the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Sciences at Central Queensland University since 2018. Previously, she was Professor at Griffith University from 2006 to 2018, Nursing Director (Education) at Princess Alexandra Hospital and Health Service from 2002 to 2008, and Nursing Director (Education and Research) at Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital from 2000 to 2001. Her academic and professional career includes appointments at Queensland University of Technology, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Phillip Institute of Technology (now RMIT), and Armidale College of Advanced Education (now University of New England). Henderson has held the role of Nursing Director, Nursing Practice Development Unit, at Princess Alexandra Hospital, Metro South Health, since 2009. She is a Board member of the Nursing and Midwifery Board Australia and a member of the Registered Nurse Accreditation Standards committee at the Australian Nursing Midwifery Accreditation Council. Her research specializations encompass nursing and education, particularly other education and nursing not elsewhere classified.
Henderson has received major awards including the 2016 National Senior Teaching Fellowship ($250,000) from the Office for Learning and Teaching, the 2011-2015 Health Services Research Fellowship ($575,000) from Queensland Health, the 2009 Discipline Scholar (Health) award ($220,000) from the Australian Learning and Teaching Council, the 2008 Publication Merit Award from the Australian College of Nursing, and the 2007 Carrick Associate Fellowship ($98,000) from the Carrick Institute. Key publications include edited books such as Promoting Professional Learning: Integrating experiences in university and practice settings (2011, with S.
