Alison M. Dachner is an Associate Professor of Management in the Department of Management, Marketing & Supply Chain at John Carroll University's Boler College of Business. She holds a Ph.D. in Labor and Human Resources from The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business with a minor in Quantitative Psychology, an M.B.A. from Cleveland State University Monte Ahuja College of Business, and a B.S.B.A. in Human Resource Management from The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business. Prior to her academic career, Dachner worked as Director of Education for an international call center. Over a decade, she has conducted research, taught, and consulted on management and leadership topics. Her teaching includes courses on introduction to management, leadership skills, organizational behavior, international management, strategic management, diversity equity inclusion and belonging, instructional design and training, employee development, inclusive hiring, onboarding, exit management and offboarding. She employs experiential and project-based learning and has designed programs and workshops for students, academics, and professionals.
Dachner's research investigates how shifts in the modern work environment and differences among diverse populations impact employee careers, along with the effectiveness of organizational strategies for engaging, developing, transitioning, and retaining employees and students. Key publications include 'You Say Goodbye, and I Say Hello: The Alumni–Organization Relationship and Post-Separation Value' in Academy of Management Review (2025, with Makarius and Brymer), 'Feel the Churn: Exercising Talent Management Practices for Employee Mobility' in Business Horizons (2024, with Makarius, Paluch, and Pedde), 'A Selected Review of Exemplary Diversity Articles Published in the Journal of Management Education' (2023, with Beatty), 'Follow the TRAILS: A Path to Systematically Designing Corporate Alumni Programs' in Organizational Dynamics (2022, with Makarius), 'Turn Departing Employees into Loyal Alumni: A Holistic Approach to Offboarding' in Harvard Business Review (2021, with Makarius), and 'The Future of Employee Development' in Human Resource Management Review (2019, with Ellingson, Noe, and Saxton). She serves as Associate Editor for the Journal of Management Education, Treasurer for the Careers Division of the Academy of Management, and holds SHRM-CP certification. Dachner has consulted for organizations including NASA and contributes to bridging research-practice gaps through practitioner-oriented publications.
