Your position:
The Institute for Systematic Theology and the Study of Religions is a sub-unit of the Faculty of Protestant Theology. The vacant position as university assistant (praedoc) serves to strengthen our teaching and research portfolio.
We are looking for Protestant theologians with a special interest in working on research questions in Systematic Theology (Dogmatics, Ethics and Philosophy of Religion).
We are a research-active institute, emphasise an inspiring working atmosphere and offer a flexible working environment.
The duration of the contract is 4 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to a total of 4 years if the employer does not submit a declaration of non-renewal within the first 12 months.
Your future tasks:
You will play an active role in the research, teaching and administration of the Institute, i.e:
- You are working on your doctoral dissertation in Systematic Theology, with a thematic focus on the study of Rudolf Otto. We expect you to complete your dissertation agreement within 6–12 months.
- You will participate in teaching and administrative tasks assigned to the organizational unit/subunit to which you are affiliated.
- You will teach courses and conduct examinations in accordance with your assignment.
- You will contribute to the institute’s doctoral seminars and participate in projects related to Rudolf Otto research and the modern psychology of religion in Vienna.
This is part of your personality:
- Completed Master's degree in Protestant Theology or a corresponding teaching degree (the degree certificate must be available by the date of employment at the latest)
- Excellent written and spoken proficiency in both German and English, together with demonstrated competence in Classical Greek and Biblical Hebrew.
- Experience in professional academic editing and in the organization of scholarly conferences.
- Demonstrated interest and proven experience in the field of ecumenical studies, both in research and teaching.
- Proficiency in the use of standard IT applications.
- A strong interest in interdisciplinary collaboration with related academic disciplines.
- Research expertise in the fields of Rudolf Otto studies and the history of modern psychology of religion in Vienna.
