Position will integrate Arabic dialects into the standard Modern Standard Arabic curriculum in pedagogically effective ways.

Position will dedicate regular office hours to support students’ academic progress and address individual learning needs.

Position will perform the additional job duties outlined below:

• Deliver high-quality instruction across proficiency levels, contributing to curriculum development, supporting student engagement, and advancing the mission of the Arabic program, as well as participating in Duke’s global and interdisciplinary initiatives.
• Teach yearly five Arabic language courses across proficiency levels.
• Integrate Arabic dialects into the standard Modern Standard Arabic curriculum in pedagogically effective ways.
• Dedicate regular office hours to support students’ academic progress and address individual learning needs.
• Conduct Oral Proficiency Interviews and other assessment measures to evaluate student language proficiency.
• Incorporate current research in language pedagogy into classroom practice to foster student-centered, communicative learning.
• Design innovative instructional materials, including technology-enhanced resources that support interactive and experiential learning.
• Review new textbooks and resources and provide recommendations for adoption.
• Propose new courses in response to programmatic needs, curricular development initiatives, and emerging student interest.
• Collaborate with program faculty to ensure alignment of course objectives, curricular coherence, and consistent assessment practices.
• Participate actively in program meetings.
• Student Engagement & Co-Curricular Activities.
• Strengthen the Arabic learning community across campus through inclusive, culturally oriented initiatives.
• Organize co-curricular and extracurricular events that enhance cultural understanding and support classroom learning.
• Advise and mentor student groups, namely the Duke Arab Student Organization.
• Support the program’s efforts to increase student enrollment and reduce attrition through proactive advising and inclusive teaching.
• Participate in professional networks for Arabic as a Foreign Language.
• Support interdisciplinary collaboration and innovative teaching.
• Offer students immersive academic and cultural experiences
• Engage in workshops and conferences related to language pedagogy and Middle East studies.
• Contribute to the training of teaching assistants affiliated with Duke’s Arabic program.

Job Requirements:Master’s degree in Second Language Pedagogy, Applied Linguistics, Arabic Literature or a related field. Position requires two years of experience. Position requires experience teaching undergraduates and Arabic language.
