Provides effective leadership for the departmental personnel and effective program management for the division.
Salary: $400 per month supplement (Initial appointment is for an interim period of one year)
Department Chair:
- Natural Sciences (Reports to the Associate Dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences and Transfer Program).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide effective leadership and management for departmental personnel process.
- Program planning.
- Teach 12 – 13 hours in the Fall and Spring semesters and 9 credit hours in the Summer semester, if available.
- Conduct scheduled office hours for student conferences.
- Teach students in all levels of their degree area.
- Consult with student regarding academic success.
- Evaluate student performance.
- Provide academic advising.
- Evaluate and revise course outlines, course materials and instructional methods.
- Develop curriculum.
- Manage budget.
- Supervise staff, facilities and equipment resources.
- Screen adjunct instructor applications and make hiring recommendations.
- Represent the department to the College and local community.
- Promote collaborations within and across departments.
- Provide integral involvement in the strategic planning and management of the department to include recruitment and retention of faculty, mentoring faculty, seeking funding for professional development, faculty workloads, and evaluations.
- Track students.
- Build communication relations.
- Develop program area.
- Maintain competency in the discipline(s) taught and teaching strategies and assessment methods.
- Serve on College Committees.
- Supervising and other divisional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Foster partnerships with public and private schools within the College’s service area.
- Contribute to ongoing program development and other professional duties.
- Participate in related endeavors and activities, such as workshops, departmental organizations, and community service projects.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in the field with graduate semester hours in their degree area.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Possess knowledge of student learning styles.
- Develop assessment instruments and interpret results.
- Evaluate student educational progress.
- Techniques of academic advising.
- Know the current issues, trends, advance, research and practices impacting their concentration.
- Teach a broad range of course in the discipline or subject area.
- Use a wide range of delivery systems, such as lecture, lecture/lab, self-paces, independent or individualized instruction, Internet, and other alternatives.
- Must be recommended by the Vice-President of Instructional Services.
