Job Description
Supports the Food Science and Technology Departments research microbiology laboratories. Supervise lab spaces and assist faculty, graduate and undergraduate researchers. Primarily microbiology oriented, but will provide assistance with other projects with approval of the Department Head. Manage basic safety policies (maintains safety training and all other IBC records) and proper waste disposal procedures.
Required Qualifications
B.S. degree or equivalent training and experience in food science or related area; Effective communication in oral and written form is essential; Ability to instruct students, staff, and faculty on proper laboratory procedures and have the ability to coordinate several projects concurrently; Prior experience in microbiology lab; Familiarity with basic plating and culturing procedures; Familiarity with handling bio-safety level 2 pathogens.
Preferred Qualifications
BS or MS degree; Previous laboratory experience in food science; Experience mentoring or supervising lab work.
