The Department of Mathematics and Systems Engineering at Florida Institute of Technology invites applications for an adjunct faculty position to teach EDS 1006: Using AI Effectively during the Fall 2026 semester.
Course Description
EDS 1006 is a hands-on undergraduate course designed to help students effectively use Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in academic, professional, and creative settings. The course introduces practical techniques for utilizing Large Language Models (LLMs), AI image-generation tools, AI-powered productivity platforms, and AI-assisted coding environments. Students learn prompt engineering, content generation, workflow integration, critical evaluation of AI outputs, and the development of AI-assisted projects.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Teach and facilitate an engaging, hands-on learning environment.
- Introduce students to AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, Canva AI, GitHub Copilot, and related platforms.
- Guide students in prompt engineering, AI-assisted writing, image generation, presentations, and productivity workflows.
- Develop and evaluate assignments, projects, examinations, and presentations consistent with the course outcomes.
- Provide timely feedback and maintain regular communication with students through Canvas.
- Foster responsible and effective use of AI technologies in academic and professional contexts.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree from an accredited institution.
- Demonstrated experience using modern generative AI tools in professional, educational, creative, or technical settings.
- Strong communication and instructional skills.
- Ability to teach practical applications of AI to students with diverse backgrounds and varying levels of technical expertise.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching college-level courses, corporate training, workshops, or professional development programs.
- Familiarity with multiple AI platforms, including large language models, image generation tools, AI-enabled productivity applications, and AI-assisted coding environments.
- Experience designing practical, project-based learning experiences.
- Industry experience involving AI-enhanced workflows, digital transformation, instructional technology, or related areas.
