Job Description
SUNY Westchester Community College seeks a knowledgeable and engaging Adjunct Instructor to teach NCCER-accredited (National Center for Construction Education & Research) HVACR and EPA curriculum within the Division of Workforce Development, at the Mount Vernon Center. This position supports the College's workforce development mission by preparing students with the technical knowledge, hands-on skills, and industry-recognized credentials needed for employment and career advancement in the HVACR (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning And Refrigeration ) industry. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality instruction, foster an active and supportive learning environment, and effectively engage a diverse population of adult and workforce learners. A strong commitment to teaching excellence, workforce readiness, student success, and the mission of a community college is essential.
Requirements
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must possess demonstrated knowledge of and proficiency with HVACR systems, processes, and equipment. Successful completion of NCCER Instructor Certification Training is required. Candidates must have a minimum of four (4) years of experience at the journey- or licensed technician-level in HVACR, or a minimum of three (3) years of experience as a certified instructor in a vocational/technical HVAC training program, consistent with NCCER instructor eligibility requirements. The successful candidate will demonstrate effective instructional practices, the ability to engage students through active, student-centered learning, proficiency in integrating instructional technology, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and a commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment that supports a diverse population of adult learners.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Previous instructional experience in a high school, community college, apprenticeship, adult education, or workforce development setting is strongly preferred. Current NCCER Instructor Certification and EPA Section 608 Universal Certification are preferred. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence, workforce readiness, student success, and the mission of a community college, with the ability to effectively support learners from diverse educational, cultural, and professional backgrounds.
