Zhong Chen is a distinguished Chair Professor and Dean of the School of AI and Liberal Arts at Beijing Normal-Hong Kong Baptist University (BNBU). He joined BNBU after a distinguished career at Peking University, where he served as Professor in the School of Computer Science, Director of the Metaverse Technology Research Institute, and former Dean of the School of Software and Microelectronics, amassing over 30 years of teaching, research, and administrative experience. Chen entered Peking University in 1979 at the age of 16, having skipped grades due to exceptional performance in national mathematics, physics, and chemistry competitions. He pursued his academic journey at PKU, earning his bachelor's degree, followed by a master's under renowned software engineering expert Prof. Yang Fuqing in 1983, and completing his PhD in 1989, after which he joined the faculty.
His research interests encompass AI and blockchain technology, big data and domain-specific software engineering, network and information security, cryptography, and cyberspace security. Chen has significantly influenced China's information technology landscape through deep involvement in national IT policy formulation and consulting. He has delivered keynote speeches at BNBU events, including discussions on transdisciplinary teaching reforms integrating AI with liberal arts education and explorations in the Greater Bay Area's business future. Among his notable honors are the Fifth China Youth Science and Technology Award, National Science and Technology Progress Award Second Prize, National Higher Education Teaching Achievement First Prize, and the Excellent Teacher Award in Computer Science and Technology. As a China Computer Federation (CCF) Fellow and standing council member, Chen continues to shape academic discourse on emerging technologies like Web3.0 and blockchain.
