Xiaofang (Sarah) Wang is an Associate Lecturer in Education Teaching and Research at Murdoch University, School of Education. She completed her Doctor of Philosophy in Education at Murdoch University in 2020. Prior to her doctoral studies, she obtained a Graduate Diploma in Secondary Education from Curtin University in 2010, with majors in Languages Other Than English (LOTE) and Mathematics, and a Bachelor of Economics specializing in Taxation from Yangzhou University from 2000 to 2004. Wang joined Murdoch University as casual staff in February 2022, advancing to Associate Lecturer in January 2023. She serves as Unit Coordinator for EDN465 Professional Experience - Perspectives on the Curriculum – Secondary and is a committee member of the Western Australia Teaching Awards.
Wang's research specializations include education assessment and evaluation, comparative and cross-cultural education, curriculum and pedagogy, and factors influencing mathematics achievement in international assessments such as PISA. She conducts comparative studies on academic performance and school segregation across schools, regions, sectors, and cultures to enhance equity and efficiency in education systems. Her seminal publication, 'Factors predicting mathematics achievement in PISA: a systematic review,' co-authored with Laura B. Perry and Anabela Malpique, appeared in the International Journal of STEM Education in 2023 and has garnered over 125 citations. In 2026, she published the book 'Case-Oriented Comparative Study: Adopting a Qualitative Comparative Analysis to Analyze National Mathematics Performance.' Wang has presented her research at international forums, including the OECD PISA Conference in 2024 and ReimaginED 2025 on 'Teaching critical thinking: A critical review of teaching strategies.' Her scholarship is recognized with the 2025 Learning and Teaching Scholarship from Murdoch University and an award for Best Publication by a Higher Degree by Research student.
