Professor William Chi Wai Wong serves as Clinical Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Family Medicine and Primary Care within the LKS Faculty of Medicine at the University of Hong Kong, where he also holds the Danny D. B. Ho Endowed Professorship in Family Medicine. A distinguished clinician-educator with extensive international experience, Wong graduated from the University of Edinburgh with an MB ChB in 1993 and completed his General Practice Vocational Training at Guy's and St. Thomas' Hospital in London in 1998. His impressive array of qualifications includes MD (Edinburgh), MA with Distinction (London), MPH (Chinese University of Hong Kong), DFFP (UK), DCH (London), DHCL (Swansea), FRCGP (UK), FRACGP (Australia), and MFTM RCPS (Glasgow), alongside specialist registration in Family Medicine (Hong Kong). He currently serves as Programme Director for the Masters of Community Health Care at HKU, Clinical Head for Family Medicine at Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong, and Honorary Consultant for the Department of Family Medicine, Hong Kong West Cluster, Hospital Authority.
Wong's research specializations encompass infectious diseases—particularly hepatitis and sexual health—primary care health service research, and health promotion and equity, with over 117 peer-reviewed publications to his name. Notable works include "Shared-care models are highly effective and cost-effective for managing chronic hepatitis B in China: Reinterpreting the primary care and specialty divide" (The Lancet Regional Health – Western Pacific, 2023), "Implementation and Evaluation of Sex Education Using A Feminist Approach: A Systematic Literature Review and Meta-Analysis" (Review of Educational Research, 2023), and "An internet-based harm-reduction intervention for chemsex: a randomised controlled trial" (JMIR Public Health & Surveillance, 2023). His achievements include Honorary Membership from the Faculty of Public Health (UK, 2015), the title of Chief Senior Consultant from the China Medical Board (2021), and second runner-up Innovation Awards (2022). Career highlights feature Chief of Service for the Department of Family Medicine at HKU-Shenzhen Hospital (2018-2021) and Co-Director of the Guangdong Provincial Train-the-Trainer Centre for General Practitioners (2019-2021).
