Great Professor!
Dr. Wei Qi Koh is a Lecturer in Occupational Therapy in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences, at the University of Queensland. She earned a Diploma of Occupational Therapy from Nanyang Polytechnic, a Bachelor (Honours) of Occupational Therapy from Glasgow Caledonian University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Health Studies from the National University of Ireland Galway in 2023. Her doctoral research evaluated the impacts of low-cost pet robots and developed strategies to support their implementation in aged care for people living with dementia. Prior to academia, she practiced as an occupational therapist in acute and community health and social care settings, primarily serving older adults. From 2019 to 2022, Dr. Koh held a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship within the EU-funded DISTINCT network, partnering with an international multidisciplinary consortium on technology for dementia care.
Dr. Koh's research interests encompass the care of people with dementia, healthy ageing in older adults, implementation science, and digital technologies including pet robots, virtual reality, and mobile applications to support older adults and caregivers. She employs evidence synthesis methods such as scoping and systematic reviews and advocates for open science practices. Key publications include “Realising my full potential despite the deterioration”: examining older adults’ experiences and perceptions of healthy ageing (2025), What are the unmet needs in people affected by dementia? A scoping review of reviews (2025), Adherence to online interventions for family caregivers of people with dementia: a meta-analysis and systematic review (2024), Self-disclosure and social media use among younger and older people with dementia: an internet-mediated mixed-methods study (2024), and Strategies to Implement Pet Robots in Long-Term Care Facilities for Dementia Care: A Modified Delphi Study (2022). With over 50 publications between 2020 and 2025 and citations exceeding 600, her work influences dementia care practices. Currently, she leads funded projects on ethical technology use in dementia care and co-designing pet robots, and supervises PhD research in occupational therapy outcomes and assistive technologies.
