About Wei

Associate Professor Wei Qi Fan is an Associate Professor in Paediatrics at the University of Melbourne, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, serving as Paediatric Academic Lead and Children and Adolescent Health Course Coordinator at the Northern Clinical School in the Department of Medical Education. She is a Melbourne-trained consultant neonatologist and paediatrician at Northern Hospital, Epping, where she has headed the Neonatal Unit since 2004. Fan graduated from the medical school of Wuhan University with an MBBS, earned a PhD in Medicine from Monash University focused on the early development of the gastrointestinal system, and holds fellowships as FRACP from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and from the Academy of Clinical Teachers at the University of Melbourne. With over 25 years of experience, she has worked in neonatology and paediatrics at prominent Victorian institutions including Monash Medical Centre, Mercy Hospital for Women, Royal Women’s Hospital, Royal Children’s Hospital, and various private and regional hospitals. She serves on the Victorian State Neonatal Advisory Group and the Maternal and Newborn Leadership Group.

Fan's research specializations encompass neonatal clinical outcomes, including nasal high-flow therapy, nutrient fortification and supplementation in low birth weight and very low birth weight infants, breastfeeding practices, presumed early-onset sepsis management in preterm infants, acute respiratory illness transfers, and point-of-care bilirubin testing.
