Veronica Johnson serves as Professor and Chair of the Department of Counseling in the Phyllis J. Washington College of Education at the University of Montana. She earned her B.A. in Psychology, M.A. in Counselor Education, and Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision, all from the University of Montana. A Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Johnson brings extensive clinical experience including work in group homes, college counseling, adult mental health, and couples counseling. Her career at the University of Montana has progressed from associate professor to her current leadership role as department chair. She teaches a range of graduate courses such as Counseling Theories, Group Counseling, Applied Counseling Skills, Professional Orientation and Ethics, Mental Health Systems and Supervision, and Advanced Counseling Methods.
Johnson's research specializations encompass clinical supervision and supervision training, the development and maintenance of intimate relationships, professional ethics, and forgiveness in intimate relationships. She has contributed to 11 scholarly outputs, including editing the book Intimate Relationships: Skills and Strategies that Lead to Success (Cognella, 2022). Notable peer-reviewed publications include co-authoring "A Systematic Review of Culturally Responsive Approaches to Child and Adolescent Mental Health Care in Ethiopia" (Frontiers in Sociology, 2021), "Clinical Interviewing" chapter in The Cambridge Handbook of Clinical Assessment and Diagnosis (Cambridge University Press, 2019), "Interstate Licensure Portability: Logistics and Barriers for Professional Counselors" (The Professional Counselor, 2019), and "Conflict Resolution" entry in The SAGE Encyclopedia of Marriage, Family, and Couples Counseling (Sage Publications, 2017). Her work supports advancements in counselor education and mental health practices.
