Tui Kent holds the position of Kaiwhakahaere Tari | Hauora Māori Administrator at the Kōhatu Centre for Hauora Māori, part of the University of Otago's Division of Health Sciences. Her office is located at 71 Frederick Street, Dunedin, where she is available on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays; on Wednesdays, she works from the first floor of the hospital. The Kōhatu Centre provides focused leadership for hauora Māori within Te Kaupeka Whaiora, the Faculty of Medicine, engaging in teaching, research, strategic development for the Māori health workforce, professional development, community networking, and dedicated support for Māori students pursuing health sciences education at the university.
Tui Kent has been repeatedly recognized for her outstanding support in teaching and education. In 2020, she received the Teaching Award for Outstanding Teaching Support in the Hauora Māori category from the Otago Medical School Dunedin Campus Teaching and Research Excellence Awards. In 2021, she was a vital team member, alongside Jo Baxter and the Kōhatu Centre team, awarded the Dean's Office teaching award for excellence in education in the Advanced Learning in Medicine (ALM) module of the MB ChB Programme. In 2024, Associate Professor Esther Willing presented her with the Kōhatu Centre for Hauora Māori Pou Whirinaki Ako Award at the ALM Teaching Awards ceremony held on 8 August in the Barnett Lecture Theatre. These awards reflect her essential contributions to enhancing Māori health education, student success, and cultural integration in medical training at the University of Otago.
