About Tracy

Tracy Lopez serves as Associate Professor and Assistant Dean for the Undergraduate Program, encompassing the Accelerated Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing (ABSN) and RN to BSN tracks, at the Gayle Greve Hunt School of Nursing, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso. She earned her Ph.D. and BSN from New Mexico State University and her MSN in Nursing Administration from the University of New Mexico. As a Registered Nurse (R.N.), Certified Nurse Educator (CNE), and FELAN, Lopez began her career providing bedside care on a busy telemetry unit and progressed to Assistant Chief Nursing Officer. With more than ten years in nursing education, she has held faculty and leadership positions and served 3.5 years on the Nursing Education Advisory Committee for the New Mexico Board of Nursing. She also acts as Title V Grant Activity Director.

Earlier in her career, Lopez was Nursing Program Director and Assistant Professor at Doña Ana Community College, receiving the 2015 Stars of Excellence Outstanding Faculty Award. She was promoted to Associate Professor at TTUHSC El Paso in 2024 and honored with the Inaugural Interprofessional Education (IPE) Leadership Award that year. Selected for the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Emerging Leaders in Academic Nursing (ELAN) class of 2022-2023, Lopez contributes to nursing education through leadership and scholarship. Her publications include co-authoring "Social Determinants of Health and College Persistence Risk in Accelerated Undergraduate Nursing Students" in the Journal for Human Caring (2025) and contributions to effective strategies for teaching evidence-based practice in undergraduate nursing programs (2023). She also contributed to the Saunders Q&A Review for the NCLEX-RN Examination (7th edition) as Nursing Program Director at NMSU-Doña Ana.
