Professor Tony Edwards is Professor of International Management at Loughborough University London, where he also serves as Dean of Loughborough University London, Director of the Institute for International Management, and Academic Lead for People and Culture. In the Business School, his academic journey began with a BA in Economics from the University of Liverpool in 1990, followed by an MA in Industrial Relations from the University of Warwick in 1993, and a PhD in Industrial Relations from Coventry University in collaboration with Warwick University in 1997. Edwards lectured at the University of Warwick from 1996 to 2000, served as Senior Lecturer in Human Resource Management at Kingston University, and advanced at King's College London from Lecturer in Comparative Management in 2002 through Senior Lecturer, Reader, and Professor, culminating as Head of the School of Management and Business in 2014. He joined Loughborough University from King's College London, bringing extensive leadership in postgraduate programs, employability initiatives, and research development.
Edwards specializes in international and comparative employment relations within multinational companies, examining the integration and differentiation of workforce management practices, employee experiences in international acquisitions, and reverse diffusion. He has led significant projects, including the ESRC-funded INTREPID large-scale survey of employment practices in MNCs from 2004 to 2007 and ongoing research on globalizing actors in MNCs using mixed methods. His scholarly output includes over 40 articles in refereed journals, 15 book chapters, and authorship of the widely used textbook 'International Human Resource Management' with Chris Rees. Notable publications are 'International HRM: national business systems, organizational politics and the international division of labour in MNCs' (Edwards and Kuruvilla, 2005, The International Journal of Human Resource Management), 'Power, institutions and the cross-national transfer of employment practices in multinationals' (Ferner, Edwards, and Tempel, 2012, Human Relations), and 'Dynamics of central control and subsidiary autonomy in the management of human resources: Case-study evidence from US MNCs in the UK' (Ferner et al., 2004, Organization Studies). Edwards has secured research grants from the ESRC, European Union agencies, CIPD, and ISBE. He contributes to the field through editorial board memberships on Industrial and Labor Relations Review and Human Resource Management Journal, and the International Advisory Board of British Journal of Industrial Relations. Additionally, he has consulted for the European Foundation on the European Company Survey, contributed to the European Industrial Relations Observatory, supported CIPD events, and authored sections for the European Commission's report on Industrial Relations in Europe.
