Tomayess Issa is an Associate Professor in the School of Management and Marketing within the Faculty of Business and Law at Curtin University. She earned her PhD in Web Development and Human Factors from Curtin University between 2003 and 2007, an MSc in Telecommunications Management from Murdoch University from 1998 to 1999, and a BSc from Murdoch University from 1995 to 1997. Recognized as a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA), holder of Professional Recognition of Expertise in Practice (PREP), and Member of the Australian Computer Society (MACS), Issa brings over 26 years of teaching experience in Australian higher education. Since 2011, she has held positions as Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor at Curtin University, previously associated with the School of Information Systems. She has supervised PhD, Master of Philosophy, and Master's students, and led the development and delivery of postgraduate units with a focus on information systems.
Issa's research specializations encompass Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), usability, sustainable design, Green IT and sustainability, social networking, e-learning, cloud computing, technology-enhanced learning, pedagogy, and online learning. Her scholarly output includes 190 publications, with over 2,499 citations on Google Scholar. Key books co-authored include 'Sustainable Design: HCI, Usability and Environmental Concerns' (Springer, 2015), 'Social Networking and Education: Global Perspectives' (Springer, 2016, with Pedro Isaias and Piet Kommers), 'Management Information Systems' (Wiley, 2015, with Heather Gray, Graeme Pye, and Indrit Troshani), and 'Management Information Systems: Harnessing Technologies for Business & Society' (2023). Notable recent articles feature 'A teamwork framework for preventing breaches of academic integrity and improving students’ collaborative skills in the AI era' (Heliyon, 2024), 'Digital Nudging Model for Learning Management Systems: Saudi Arabia Perspective' (2025), and 'Sentiment-based predictive models for online purchases in the era of marketing 5.0: a systematic review' (2024). Issa serves as a Section Editor for Heliyon and coordinated the International Research Network IRNet-EU from 2014 to 2017. Her contributions have earned awards such as the Student Guild Outstanding Achievement in Teaching Excellence 2017 Award (overall university-wide winner in 2018), Curtin Guild Research Supervisor Award (2022), and nomination for Curtin University Outstanding Contribution to Learning and Teaching Awards.
